If you take business or government credit cards, you might be able to save on processing fees by including something called Level 2 and Level 3 (L2/L3) card data with your transactions.
The good news? Payments Manager+ makes it easy to add these details as part of your normal invoicing process.
What is L2/L3 Card Data?
Level 2 and Level 3 card data is simply extra information that gets passed along with a credit card transaction. This includes things like:
- Customer reference numbers
- Tax information
- Item details on the invoice
When you submit these details, many card brands offer lower processing rates — meaning you pay less in fees on those transactions. That’s why it’s a smart move to include L2/L3 data whenever you can.
How to add L2/L3 information in Payments Manager+
You’ll enter L2/L3 details in two spots:
- On your customer’s profile
- On each invoice item
1️⃣ Add tax info to your customer’s profile
Step 1: Open the customer record
From your Dashboard, go to Customers. You can either:
- Click Add Customer to create a new one, or
- Select the eye icon (👁) to open an existing customer record
Step 2: Enter the customer’s tax and reference info
Scroll down to find the fields for:
- Customer Reference ID
- Customer VAT Registration Number (if it applies)
Fill in the information you have, then click the blue Save button in the bottom right corner.
👉 Tip: You don’t need this for every customer, but the more you can fill in, the better chance you have of qualifying for lower rates when L2/L3 applies.
2️⃣ Add L2/L3 details to invoice items
Step 1: Start your invoice
From your Dashboard, click Invoice and choose to create an invoice, estimate, or recurring invoice.
Step 2: Add item-level L2/L3 details
As you add items, services, or bundles to your invoice, look for the small tricolon button (⁝) next to each one. Click it to open the L2/L3 details window.
You’ll see two tabs:
- L2 for Level 2 fields
- L3 for more detailed Level 3 fields
Fill out any fields that apply, then click Save item detail to apply the changes.
