Time Entry Grid: Common Payroll Entry Examples
1. Salary Sick/PTO entry: The employee’s Per Pay Salary is $1,500.00 for 80 normal hours. Inputting 8 sick hours will decrease the normal hours and salary amount, and allocate 8 hours and the associated amount to the sick earning. The paystub will reflect 72 Salary Hours + 8 Sick = 80 Total Hours for $1,500.00 Gross Pay.
2. Override Salary: One-time changes for the current payroll, including not paying a salaried employee or paying a different amount.
-
- No Salary Check (Blocked): Select the Block box to stop a payment from being issued. If you block the salary in the Time Entry Grid, it is only blocked for the current pay period. If there are scheduled recurring earnings like a cell phone reimbursement, they would not be blocked and would still generate a payment to the employee.
- Prorated Salary: To prorate a salary and issue a different amount for this payroll only, select the Block box and enter the prorated salary amount that you calculated for the employee into the Salary dollars column.
3. Dollar Amount Entry: The employee is being paid 80 Regular hours, with a bonus of $150.00. The Bonus column is in a dollar format rather than hours. The 80 hours and $150.00 will be paid on the same check.
4. Dollar Amount Entry: The employee is being paid 80 Regular hours, with a commission of $175.00. The Commission column is in a dollar format rather than hours. The 80 hours and $175.00 will be paid on the same check.
5. Labor Allocation: The employee works 20 hours as a Manager. Using the department column, you can allocate the hours worked to the Manager department and the remaining 60 hours to their home department of Employee. If Dept. 301 is the assigned department at the employee level, it is not required to allocate the 60 hours as hours are allocated to the home department as the default.
6. Alternative Rates: The employee has 40 hours at their normal hourly rate and 40 hours being paid at an alternate pay rate. Select the Paperclip to view the employee’s alternate pay rates. Yellow cells will indicate an alternate pay rate has been applied.
