Overview
This article describes how to connect and set up the hardware in the Ethernet cable kit for Heartland branded stands for iPad workstations.
Component Cables
The following is a list of the necessary cables and components.
Internal Stand Cable
The cable within the stand (plugs into iPad, runs through the base and has a Lightning connection coming out the bottom of the stand) should already be run within the existing stand upon receiving the new stand.
Ethernet Adapter
The device that allows you to connect to ethernet and power. The male Lightning connection will be connected to the internal stand cable.
Y Cable
Named for the “Y” shape of the cable. One end (at the top of the "Y") should be Lightning plugged into the ethernet adapter. The other end is a female USB-A connection for power only, which you can use to power an optional barcode scanner or an additional power port. The bottom of the "Y" is a male USB-A connection, which you should plug into the Apple power brick.
Apple Power Brick
Apple power brick comes with the iPad. Used for power.
All Cables Together
These are all the cables described, connected correctly.
Connecting the Assorted Cords and Components
The following procedures describe how to connect the assorted cords properly.
- Plug the ethernet adapter into the internal cable of the Heartland stand.
- Plug the Lightning end of the "Y" cable into the ethernet adapter.
- Plug the male USB-A end of the "Y" cable into the Apple power brick.
- Plug in an ethernet cable (if desired).
- Connect the Apple power brick to a power source.
iPad Pros and newer iPads will use USB-C instead of Lightning connections, but the cable configuration is identical.
