Overview
This article describes how to configure Epson printers to work with an OT-WL05 DNUB-E1 WiFi Dongle. Specifically, this article describes how to set up an Epson TM-T88VI. For the OT-WL06-321, you should verify you you're running the latest firmware. For the TM-T88VI, you will need 40.51A ESC/POS or later. For the TM-T88VI-i, you will need Firmware Ver.50.52 ESC/POS or later.
Required Equipment and Versions
- OT-WL05 (DNUB-E1 dongle with USB adapter cable)
- Epson Printer
The printer must be put into Simple AP Mode. This is supported if the interface Hardware version is 00 or later and the interface Software version is 1.1 or later.
While there are many printers that can utilize a WiFi interface, Heartland Restaurant only supports some of these printers. Please see the printers on our Certified Equipment list here.
This article assumes you are using a printer found on our Certified Equipment list. - Epson TM Utility App
If you use Control Scan Network Equipment, you can only use the App on the Back Office network. - Ethernet Cable (optional)

Checking Hardware & Software Versions
- Load paper, and then turn the printer on.
- Wait for about 20 seconds.
- Hold down the Push button on the interface board with a fine-point object for more than three seconds.
The interface information should now be printed. Ensure it meets the version requirements specified above.
Performing an Epson Factory Reset
- Turn off the printer.
- Use a fine-pointed object to press and hold the Reset button on the back of the printer shown here.
- While holding the Reset button, turn the printer on.
After approximately five seconds, it will print a warning stating it is resetting the printer to it default factory settings. - If you wait about five more seconds, it will print two more sheets, one with the factory reset IP Address and another one alerting you the Factory Reset is complete.
Configuring the Printer Using the TM Utility
Getting Started
- Install and open the Epson TM Utility App on a device that is on the same SSID you intend to set the printer up on.
- Select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard from the main menu.
- On the next screen, tap Printer Model to open a list of printer models.
- Select the model of your specific printer.
You cannot configure WiFi when the network security type is Enterprise (WPA2-Enterprise). You will need to use the Epson Net Config (PC tool) tool instead. - Depending on the type of printer you selected, you may see a screen to specify which interface you are using. Select Wireless LAN Unit.
- Follow the displayed instructions.
- Select Not Printed if the print result didn’t print and proceed to Step 6.
Select Printed if it does match and proceed to Step 11.
Simple AP Mode Setup
- Follow the displayed instructions. Select Printed once you receive the printout.
- Follow the displayed instructions. Select Printed once you receive the printout.
- Follow the displayed instructions. Select Printed once you receive the printout.
- Follow the displayed instructions. Select Printed once you receive the printout.
- Follow the displayed instructions. Select Printed once you receive the printout.
- Save this printout; you will need it in Step 15.
- Once you reach the next screen, you will be redirected to Safari to download a file.
- Select Next on the Safari webpage and then select Allow to download the file.
- Once the download is successful, you will receive a notification. Select Close.
- Another message will display. Select Open to return to the TM Utility.
Printer Connection Settings
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before proceeding confirm you are on the same WiFi SSID you want the printer to connect to.
- Follow the instructions displayed and select Next when done.
Here is a screenshot of the necessary settings selected under Settings → Wi-Fi.
When you are prompted for the password, enter the passphrase listed on the printout from Step 10. Once connected, return to the TM Utility. - Select the SSID of the network you want to connect the printer to. Select Auto if desired and select Next.
- Select the Security Type for the Network chosen in the previous step, then select Next.
- Enter the Passphrase for the selected network and select Next.
- Configure the IP Address for the Enable DHCP to receive one automatically or disable to enter Static IP Address information. (Static is the recommended setup). Once all information is entered, select Next.
Heartland Restaurant communicates with printers based on IP address; therefore we recommend statically assigning one to the printer so it does not change.
- Confirm all displayed network settings are correct, then select Set to Printer to send the configuration to the printer. This will take a moment to send to the printer; you may see lights flash on the printer during this process.
Printer Connection Check
- Once the configuration has been sent to the printer, follow the displayed When done, select Next.
- Select Test Printing and ensure a test slip prints.
If it does, the printer is now configured; select Finish.
Below is an example of a successful test print.
- You can now configure the printer in Heartland Restaurant and utilize printing over WiFi.
Troubleshooting
If you get the error specified below, you did not wait long enough for the printer to update. To avoid, wait until all lights stop blinking on the printer while it is receiving configuration.
The following will print from the printer. You will need to start again from Step 10.
To print the interface information:
- With the printer off, hold the feed button.
- While holding the feed button power on the printer.
- A slip will print with the WiFi & Ethernet interface information.
- Once the slip prints press the feed button once.
- A self test will print.
To print interface information with a QR code:
- Open the door for the paper with the printer powered on.
- Hold the feed button until the paper indicator starts flashing.
- Close the door for the paper while holding the feed button.
- Release the feed button once it’s closed.
- The interface information should now If not press the feed button once more.
- You can use the TM Utility to scan the QR code as an alternative way to connect to the device in the app.
