AVS Guide for Heartland Restaurant
This article describes how to set Online Ordering to require AVS (Address Verification Service) billing information from customers. This enables the processor to use address verification for online orders (where a credit card is not present at the point of sale). Allowing AVS will not decline every transaction. The idea behind AVS is that we are sending the address with every request to help reduce chargebacks and fight against disputed charges when warranted.
With this feature enabled, sites using the Heartland Portico payment gateway can now set the program to store credit card transactions in two separate batches, one for in-store transactions processed with PAX, and one for online order transactions processed with eCommerce. Transactions processed by eCommerce will include the address information required for AVS validation.
Enable AVS in Heartland Restaurant
- In the Admin Console's Main Menu, click Payment Gateway.
- In the Payment Gateway screen, in the Online Settings area, select Heartland/Portico in the Gateway list.
The program will display the Full Billing Address Verification check box with other controls specific to the Heartland Portico gateway.
- Click Full Billing Address Verification check box.
By enabling this setting, the Online Ordering website will allow customers to provide additional billing information (street address, city, state, and ZIP code) with the usual credit card information.
This feature enables the processor to use address verification for online orders (where a credit card is not present at the point of sale). When using the AVS service, the site sends extra address data with every request to the processor. AVS verification not only reduces the likelihood of chargebacks, it also helps sites contest chargebacks when they do occur.
