Tax Exempt Organizations
While most non-profits cannot file for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, there is a slight variation for qualified 501(c) tax-exempt organizations who are hiring veterans. These organization will be able to claim the credit on IRS Form 5884-C, Work Opportunity Credit for Qualified Tax-Exempt Organizations Hiring Qualified Veterans. It will be used as a credit against the employer’s share of Social Security tax. This credit will not affect the employer’s Social Security tax liability as reported on the organization’s employment tax return.
